The traditional finance world continues to embrace Bitcoin, as evidenced by the recent move from Tudor Investment. The macro hedge fund founded by Paul Tudor Jones revealed it boosted its stake in BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) by 18.9% in the second quarter. This increase, raising its share count from 579,083 at the end of March to 688,529 as of June 30, marks the end of nearly a year of reductions.
This acquisition of an additional 109,446 shares is valued at approximately 21,07 € million. It's important to note that this new position remains modest compared to the peak of Tudor's IBIT investment, which had once exceeded 8 million shares by the end of 2024, valued at roughly 392,84 € million. Successive reductions throughout 2025 brought the share count significantly lower, with the recent purchase recovering only a fraction of the previously sold exposure.
Despite this increase, Tudor Investment's stake in IBIT represents a small portion of its overall portfolio. The fund manages over 92,00 € billion in assets, and the 21,07 € million Bitcoin ETF position constituted only a fraction of its reported securities holdings at the end of June. This information highlights the cautious approach of large asset managers towards the inherent volatility of cryptocurrencies, even as they invest in them.
Alongside the purchase of direct shares, Tudor Investment also substantially reduced its exposure to call options related to BlackRock's Bitcoin fund. The call option position dropped by about 85%, falling from the equivalent of 998,000 underlying shares at the end of March to 148,000 shares by the end of June. Put option exposure remained largely unchanged, suggesting a more conservative strategy on derivative instruments.
Reports filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) provide a snapshot of positions at the end of a quarter but do not detail strike prices or expiration dates for options. They also do not clarify whether the reduction in call options resulted from sales, expirations, or a strategic shift. Form 13F filings, used for these declarations, only show long positions in certain U.S.-listed securities and do not reflect directly held cryptocurrencies, complete hedges, or trades opened and closed within the quarter.

Tudor Investment's increased participation comes at a time when other major financial institutions have also adjusted their positions in BlackRock's Bitcoin ETF. For instance, Morgan Stanley increased its stake by 23% in the second quarter, bringing its position to approximately 16.5 million shares. The bank also reported holdings in its own Bitcoin Trust.
UBS also reported a significant increase in its iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF position, growing from about 549,000 shares at the end of 2025 to nearly 2.5 million shares by the end of June 2026, representing an approximate 355% rise over six months. These movements illustrate a growing trend among financial institutions to gain exposure to Bitcoin through regulated investment vehicles.
However, not all large holders increased their allocations. Harvard Management Company maintained its 3.04 million IBIT shares unchanged, ending two consecutive quarters of reductions. Other Abu Dhabi investment entities, such as Mubadala Investment Company and Abu Dhabi Investment Council, also kept their holdings steady.
Paul Tudor Jones's support for Bitcoin is not new. Since 2020, he has publicly advocated for the asset as a hedge against monetary expansion and inflation, positioning it alongside gold and other scarce assets. His investment thesis partly relies on Bitcoin's fixed supply and the potential loss of purchasing power in fiat currencies.
These institutional developments, while distinct from the operations of crypto online casinos like Stake.com, underscore the growing maturity of the cryptocurrency market and the interest from traditional investors in assets like Bitcoin. For players using cryptocurrencies for deposits on gaming platforms, this institutional recognition might be seen as a sign of increased market stability. It is reminded that responsible gaming and verification of the legality of online gambling in your jurisdiction are essential. Gamble responsibly and within the rules.
