Change DNS: ISP blocks, operator filters, “site blocked” pages
When the Orange, SFR or Bouygues box rewrites domain names (family filter, anti-phishing). A technical setting — not an ANJ free pass. 18+.

1. DNS is the phone book
DNS turns casinos-crypto.fr or stake.com into an IP address. By default that is often your ISP resolver (Orange, SFR, Bouygues, Free). If it lies or filters, you see a “site blocked” page, an interstitial, or a weird certificate — while the site still exists.
Changing DNS means asking someone else for the phone book (Cloudflare 1.1.1.1, Quad9 9.9.9.9, Google 8.8.8.8, or a VPN’s DNS). It does not encrypt all traffic: it is not a VPN.
2. What it fixes — and what it doesn’t
It can fix: over-eager “family” filters, a wrong phishing reputation (some ISPs show a site-bloque.* page), slow or broken DNS, ads injected via the operator resolver.
It does not bypass a law, an IP geoblock, a captcha, or an ANJ licence. Same as the VPN and Stake France guides: a technical tool, not a how-to for playing with an unlicensed operator. If access isn’t available in your framework, don’t push it.
3. Common public resolvers
Write them down before you touch the box, so you can revert (DHCP / “automatic”).
- Cloudflare: 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1
- Quad9 (malware filter): 9.9.9.9 and 149.112.112.112
- Google: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
- IPv6 if your box shows it: 2606:4700:4700::1111 (Cloudflare) or 2620:fe::fe (Quad9)
4. Where to change it (landmarks, not a fraud tutorial)
Cleanest: the ISP box (admin UI, primary / secondary DNS) so the whole home uses it. Otherwise: that device only.
- Windows: Settings → Network → Wi-Fi / Ethernet → DNS
- macOS: Settings → Wi-Fi → Details → DNS
- Android / iOS: “Private DNS” (DoH) to dns.google, cloudflare-dns.com or dns.quad9.net
- Afterwards: reboot the box or flush DNS cache, retest without a VPN first
5. DNS vs VPN (NordVPN)
If the ISP still blocks after a public DNS (IP filter, transparent proxy, stubborn mobile data), a VPN encrypts the path — kill-switch, official app, full session. That’s the VPN guide, not “magic DNS”.
NordVPN also runs its own resolution: useful against DNS leaks. 18+ if you then go to Stake; play responsibly.
